The Lake

I don't know why
It made me upset
or why I felt
unwanted

It was just a boat
among a river of fire
that glimmered on the surface
and flickered against my skin

that built fish up in
my stomach
that wanted to swim freely

I fought on the inside
that night
not just for you
but for the fish.
